**The Deputy Commissioner or DC is a bureaucrat who looks after the proper implementation of various schemes and plans and policies of the Central Government as well as the State Government in the district. He is regarded as the representative of the Government at the district level. He has to deal and coordinate with the working of all Government offices within the district and also looks after the law and order situation in the district. He is the primary relief agency in cases of natural calamities, be it fire, flood or drought. He controls the elections of MP’s, MLA’s, Panchayats, Panchayat Samitis, Zila Parishad and urban local bodies as the case may be.
