The Government of Assam on Wednesday (26-05-2021) in a Cabinet meeting created a new department called Welfare of Bodoland Department for speedy implementation of various schemes and also to look after the various issues in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) comprising four districts viz. Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Udalguri.

Earlier the affairs of Bodoland region was under the Welfare of Plain Tribes and Backward Classes Department.

It may be mentioned that the Cabinet meeting was Chaired by the Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

In the same cabinet meeting, a decision was taken to set up the Bodoland Administrative Staff College in Kokrajhar. The College shall start functioning immediately from a rented building if no suitable building is available. The Bodoland Administrative Staff College is set up as per the  clause 8.3 of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) accord signed on 27-01-2020.
