The State Bank of India (SBI) has recently announced that it will allow its customers to update their Know Your Customer (KYC) details of their accounts via email or through post. SBI announced via its official Instagram handle "theofficialsbi" on May 1 that customers will not not have to visit their branch to update their KYC details.

This decision was taken in view of the rising COVID-19 cases along with ongoing lockdowns in various States of the country.


How to update SBI KYC details without visiting bank branch

To  update the KYC details without physically visiting the branch, the customers are required to send their KYC documents either via registered email ID or through post.

The customers should submit their proof of identity and proof of address to their bank branch via email or post to update their KYC details.

To update KYC details via email, the customers should scan their KYC documents and send them on the bank branch email address. The KYC updation should be done only if its due or the bank has notified the customer for the same. The email must be sent from the email ID registered with the bank account only.

The customers may also update their KYC details via post by sending all the KYC documents to the postal address of the concerned bank branch.


Documents required to update KYC of SBI account 

The documents accepted by SBI as proof of identity or proof of address for updating KYC details are:

For individuals
  • Passport
  • Voter's Identity Card
  • Driving License
  • Aadhaar Letter/Card
  • NREGA Card
  • PAN Card
Any one document towards proof of identity and proof of address (either permanent or current).

For Minors

In case of minors, if the child is less than 10 years of age, ID proof of the person who will operate the account has to be submitted.

In cases where minor operates the account independently, KYC procedure for identification/ address verification as in the case of any other individuals would apply.

For NRIs

Passport and Residence Visa Copies, duly attested by
  • Foreign offices
  • Notary Public
  • Indian Embassy
  • Officers of correspondent banks whose signatures are verifiable through an authorized (A/B category Forex handling branch) branch of the Bank.
